God of amazing surprises, dwelling unrecognized in the stranger among us, open our eyes, sharpen our hearing, increase our sensitivity to the presence of Jesus, lest we miss the opportunities you place before us. Praise God for this great gift of life,

In Christ is ended death and strife,

We praise the Spirit for this day;

And seek to follow Christ’s true way. Amen.

*PRAYER OF CONSECRATION (in unison)

To share the peace of Christ, to confront the doubts that we face on every hand, to feed our bodies and our spirits, we offer these tokens of thanksgiving. May our church make a powerful witness in this place, wherever we scatter during the week, and in situations where others must go for us. Strengthen our witness here and everywhere, we pray. Amen.

*POSTLUDE

May’s Loose Plate Offering will be designated to UMC Camp Scholarships for our own youth. Being able to go to summer camps and learn about our faith in a fun-filled atmosphere is an important part of growing up. These experiences enrich the lives of our children and enable them to form stronger friendships with children from our own congregation, and more importantly, meet other youth from other congregations. Please continue to be generous in your giving.

Methodist Men will be gathering at the church at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 30 for their regular meeting. Following our potluck, a “busy” business meeting and devotions, we will be viewing a portion of a DVD titled “Speechless-Silencing the Christians.” You may be shocked by some of these stories. Jerry Seward is the host for the evening. Bring a friend and join us.

Show your mom you love her all summer long! Our YOUth are now taking orders for Mother’s Day hanging baskets. You may choose from begonias, geraniums, fuchsias, impatiens and petunias. Baskets are again just $14.50. You may pick up your flowers at the Mother-Daughter dinner, May 8; Saturday, May 9 at 11:00 am. or Sunday, May 10 at church. Youth will be available in Fellowship Hall to take your orders or call Debbie Pant.

Our Mother/Daughter Banquet will be held on Friday, May 8, at 6:30 p.m.. Tickets may be purchased following each service through Sunday, May 3. Adults are $9.00; children ages 4-12 are $4.50 and children under 3 years old are free. Pam Bowman will entertain us with the beautiful music of the dulcimer.

THE ROUGH WINTER IS TURNING TO SPRING! Your response has been tremendous! For the $9,400 in extra/unexpected expenses that built up this winter, dozens of your have responded to give an additional $3,715 to help. We still have $5,685 in extra expenses, plus the lingering increase in monthly utilities. The display board in the Fellowship Hall is looking better. If you haven’t picked up an envelope, or have grabbed one and haven’t had a chance to return it, please continue to prayerfully consider an extra gift to your church, of whatever amount you are able, to help offset the current deficit. Your help to get your church out from under the mounting pile of unexpected and increasing expenses is deeply appreciated!!

The 2009 Flower Chart is available on the bulletin board in the office hallway. You may sign-up to honor or remember a person(s) or special occasion. The flowers are $15 - simply remit through your regular offering envelope or a pew envelope.

On Native American Ministries Sunday, United Methodists cultivate and support urban missions with Native Americans and fund scholarships for Native American seminarians. Our annual conference retains 50% of the offering to strengthen and develop Native American ministries. There are six Native American congregations in West Michigan - together they form the Indian Workers Conference: Bradley Indian Mission (Shelbyville); Greensky Hill Indian Church (Charlevoix); Kewadin Indian Mission ; Chippewa Indian Church (Mt. Pleasant); Northport Indian Mission; Salem Indian Mission (Hopkins). The remaining 50 percent of the offering expands mission work with the Native American Urban Initiative and provides scholarships for Native Americans attending United Methodist and other approved schools of theology. The Native American Ministries Sunday offering is critical as it helps to continue the traditions and nurture the gifts of Native Americans.

April showers bring May flowers. Our flowers are boxes of cereal for the King’s Storehouse, a local food pantry for all who need it. The King’s Storehouse is distributed from the First Baptist Church.

Please bring boxes of cereal on the first Sunday in May.
