ENTRANCE OF THE LIGHT OF CHRIST

WELCOME AND PARISH NOTES

*CALL TO CELEBRATION

One:..........Mortal, can these bones live?

Can a dry and dusty liturgy dance again?

All:..........Do ancient words written centuries ago still have the power to change the world? Our presence here is our hopeful “Yes.”

One:..........In a valley of dry bones, we see possibility, not despair.

In a broken world, crying out with parched throats,

we sing the power of God’s word.

All:..........Blow through the barren valleys of this world, O God.

And breathe your Spirit upon our worship this day.

Let our prayer and praise give you glory and honor.

PRAYER HYMN....................#420

Breathe on Me, Breath of God”

UNISON PRAYER
O God, we come to you from valleys where there are dry bones. Sometimes, we have passed them by. Sometimes they are in us. Sometimes, we have tried to breathe life into them apart from your Spirit’s energizing power. Set a vision before us today that the dry bones may hear your word, respond to your breath, and live. Lead us, we pray, to that realm where people are no longer bound but know the freedom resurrection to new life in Christ. Amen.

*PRAYER OF DEDICATION (in unison)

Bring life, O God, to the ministry and mission of this church, which we support through our tithes and offerings. May our giving bring life and hope in many “valleys of dry bones.” As Christ’s disciples, may each of us commit ourselves to carrying forward the work to which we are called in our own day. Bless us and all the gifts we bring, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Methodist Men will meet at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 27 for their regular monthly gathering and potluck. Now that we are well rested after cooking 250+ hot dogs for Vacation Bible School, we are planning a quick trip to Yellowstone National Park. This trip, assisted by a video, will follow dinner, a business meeting and devotions. Host is Ezekiel and his trusted helper, Paul. Bring a friend and join us.

On Sunday, September 6, we will be welcoming new members into our church family at both services. If you have been attending here and have considered joining the church, please call the church office at 775-5362 and let us know, or speak with Pastor Tom or Judy Coffey after services today. A time of orientation is being planned. We would love to welcome you, as well, on September 6!

We are still looking for a few good people to help with our Power Point Ministry Team for Sunday worship. If you have a creative edge and would like to help create or if you would like to be a “button pusher“, please contact Laurie. Thanks!!
